The Major Impacts of Internet Gambling

That meant that others could strictly control the number of people falling into the dens of gambling iniquity. Now, it’s gotten very easy to play any time and anywhere in the world. Why is that true? The Internet—the great leveler in so many industries—has opened the floodgates to gambling, and created an enormous online industry whose dollars earned is eclipsed only by pornography as the largest. By largest I mean that billions of dollars are wagered every month from every corner of the world.

In the future, we can only expect this level of online gaming to continue to grow, led by several new factors. First, internet gambling is highly profitable for those who offer their gambling websites. Since the barriers to entry are so low, then thousands can enter the business. So the supply of gambling sites is enormous, and will continue to grow.

Secondly, the number of gamblers entering the marketplace is growing by leaps and bounds. The reason is that gambling is being proffered to more and more people who didn’t have geographic or legal access in the past. Although it’s difficult to remember this, there were very few places where gambling was allowed in the US practically unfettered even 30 years ago. It’s only recently, with the advent of Indian gaming, that most states have places where gamblers can scratch their itch, wet their whistle and take care of their needs to wager.

Thirty years ago, the only place that people could gamble in the United States was in Las Vegas and a few other hick towns in Nevada. Everywhere else it was illegal. Now, the ubiquitous wandering of gambling palaces has resulted in an overall rush to gamble, regardless of location. The next logical step is for people to play at home, any time of the day or night. With the Internet, that’s happened. We can play in our pajamas, at work, at home, on the road, even on one’s cell phone. It’s all over gambling, all the time!
